Inbal Hoffman (b. 1973) is an artist whose practice moves fluidly between media. She graduated with honours from the Department of Visual Communication at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, and went on to earn an MFA in fine art. Over more than two decades she has worked across illustration, design, fashion, photography, sculpture and installation — constantly seeking encounters between traditional craft and industry, the organic and the digital, the line and the object.

Today she is based in Milano, Italy, where ceramics has become the centre of her work. Drawing on years as a tattoo artist, she developed a fine-line underglaze technique — adapting tattoo-transfer materials and a modified slip-trailing tool into an applicator that lets her draw smooth, precise lines directly onto clay. The result carries her illustrator's hand into three dimensions.

Statement

At the heart of my work is the search for the touch points between the two- and the three-dimensional. Drawing and illustration are the tools through which I turn thoughts into images, and then transform the image into a real object. I move across an extensive spectrum of media — drawing, sculpture, installation, and now ceramics — creating meeting points between traditional forms of making and technology, between organic and artificial nature. My work is an exercise in meticulousness and precision: the imposition of order over entropy.

Selected exhibitions include the solo show Mundane Heights at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, alongside group exhibitions and projects in galleries and museums internationally.
